A media agency approached IdeasAnvil to design an installation to be put into a London venue. The installation already included a number of large screens (40" plasmas and 21" LCD) in the main area of the venue but a smaller number of LCD screens were required to be placed in the public toilets.
All of the screens were to be connected to a secure back room where a number of video servers would provide video content to the screens. These servers were to be accessed remotely using an ADSL service. Also, the media agency required a local secure wifi access so that they were able to modify the schedules and content whilst in the venue, but without requiring access to the secure backroom (where they would not have been able to see the screens)
There were a number of issues: placing screens in the public toilets required special small-formats, custom designed enclosures and low-voltage systems, the variety of screen aspect ratios required a number of video servers and management of the content to ensure that the output images were optimised.
IdeasAnvil limited designed custom enclosures for the 12V 6.4"640x480 LCD screens that we sourced for the public toilets. The screens were also housed within special sealed units that allowed for quick change out for maintenance and also ensured the electronics were sealed against liquid ingress and humidity.
The nightclub had a number of existing Edje video servers which had been mounted either on or near the existing screens. The new design had these units moved back to the secure server room and the video signals from these being distributed to the screens via a video-over-cat5 distribution system.
